When I meet people, and they ask me what do you do for a living? And I proudly tell them that I am a writer. But then that expression on their face is that a career is quite disappointing. And the next question in the row that is even more frustrating is “How much can you earn from this career”? I feel like telling them that when you have no knowledge about Writing, then this question of yours automatically becomes invalid.

Seriously, I would like to ask every writer reading this, have you ever faced such a situation? If yes, then you would understand my motto of writing this article.

First of all, Writing is not the easiest career option, and second of all, not everyone can write. Basically, it is similar to the concept that not everyone can become an Engineer or a Doctor.

It needs some specific skills and knowledge to become a writer. You will be amazed to know that even a big and renowned university in the world offers courses in Writing; why? Because even they know that it takes a proper and appropriate education to become a writer.

The basic skills that is required to become a writer:

Adaptability

Every writer who is working for a company must know the simple rule of adaptability. There are different tone and style for every writeup; now here comes the Aristotle 3 elements:

Logos: there are a few content types where you need to add facts and figures to convince the audience regarding the information you are sharing. Any technical content that is based on analysis and data will need a Logos element in Writing.

Pathos: Suppose you write poetry, share sensitive information, or write about relationship and health issues. Then you need to make an emotional connection with your audience, and that comes under Pathos.

Ethos: This one is normally used with Business writing when there is a need to show credibility to the audience or customers through a writing piece. There are times when you need to gain the trust and loyalty of your customers, then when the element Ethos comes into existence. The reason why people should believe in you and your product or service, you need to show personal credibility through rewards, awards and certifications.

Strong research skills

A good writer needs to research a lot because Writing depends on the productivity and creativity of your mind when you go through any information. Be it Google or books or even magazines, it’s all about researching; it doesn’t matter what medium you choose.

Organizational skills

That’s again a very essential skill; every writer must know how to be organized. Maintain a calendar of your deadlines and align your work as per it. A clean workstation and an organized calendar is what makes a writer responsible.

Wrapping Up

So yes, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to become a writer. I have mentioned some technical skills that are required, but other than that, you need patience, a high level of concentration and dedication in Writing.

Another myth that needs to be highlighted is that not every good reader becomes a writer. Not every writer is a good reader. Some people are addicted to books. They love reading, but that doesn’t mean that they can even write and similarly never assume that every writer loves to read books. It totally depends on your liking and disliking.

The bottom line is that it needs some in-build skills and interest to become a writer. You can’t make someone a good writer forcefully.
